Road Trip 2016: Michigan to Florida, Part Two

We took two notable side-trips: the Everglades and Key West. First up, the Everglades. We left early, took our time to savor the incredible diversity of life there; the sheer vast expanse of it all. We got lucky, weather-wise, it was a gorgeous day–mostly sunny and upper seventies–whilst back home in Deetroit City, the high was a balmy fifteen degrees F.

Like I said, savored every minute. 🙂   OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

  1. Lovely pics, looks like many spots here in Charleston, SC. While you’re in the Keys, and if it’s on your list of things-to-check-out, you have to let us all know if the Ernest Hemingway House is really a must-see.

    • I’m so glad you stopped by and enjoyed the photos. What a great trip, esp. in January when one is a Michigander.

I’ve never been to Charleston, but our friends who accompanied us to FL were there two years ago and loved it. Prettiest city they ever saw, they said. So maybe one day…

As for the Ernest H. House…we were in stop-and-go, bumper-to-bumper traffic when we passed that house. It had been on our list, along with the buoy that marked the southernmost point in the continental U.S. Poo! But we finally did find a parking spot and got out of the damn van, with enough time on the meter to hit one bar, two antique shops, and a cool store selling real coins and stuff from the Atocha. As a writer, I really wanted to see Hemingway’s house…which is a good reason to go back to Key West, I’m thinking. 🙂

  2. We have friends who moved to Florida a few years back who have yet to see a gator. We keep calling them failures 😉

Of my Florida trips, I think I enjoyed my time in the Keys the best. We rented a houseboat and puttered in the Gulf for a few days, and then proceeded to Key West for the rest of the week to take in the sunshine and weirdness there. It was glorious.

    • Relative to those gators, they were really everywhere, we saw so many!!! But in the glades only, we didn’t see them anywhere else.

As for your trip to the keys, that’s the way to do it, I bet. We were crazy people, driving from Fort Lauderdale all the way to Key West and back again in one day. Good lord. So we didn’t have a real chance to soak it up like you did. I love the idea of a houseboat, puttering in the Gulf. Heaven on earth, Jen!

      xoxo kk
